It
has been over 15 years since Master’s Commission opened its doors. The
vision of the Master’s Commission began in the heart of Pastor Larry
Kerychuk after an encounter with a young man from the Mormon faith,
shortly after the young man finished sharing his commitment to his two
year mission. Larry strongly
felt that Christian young people were more than capable of such commitment. With the support of Pastor Tommy Barnett the Master’s Commission
was born. When offered directorship of Master’s Commission, I had been
on staff at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Tucson, Arizona for 12
years. Excited at the
opportunity I accepted the position.
Early in my direction, I felt a pressing desire to extend the scope
of discipleship to church evangelism, street outreach, and campus
evangelism, placing a strong emphasis on mentoring the youth of our
nation. As a result, our
program in Phoenix began to grow and catch on across the nation.
Pastors who shared the same vision began Master’s Commission
programs in their churches as well, thus creating the need for an
international network. The
Master’s Commission International Network (MCIN) was established in 1995
to maintain the integrity and “heart” of the Master’s Commission
program.
As the International Executive Director, I feel the scope of our vision is
extending once again. We have
formed a four part agenda for the future of this network.
Commonly groups struggle as they begin their new programs.
I want to see that change. As
part one of this agenda we are working to mobilize a foundation task force
of experienced Master’s Commission graduates to travel to and provide
strength for churches as they begin their new Master’s Commission
Programs. This would give the
church’s director and staff a strong foothold from the beginning.
The second part of this agenda is to develop an international team.
Master’s commission leaders from across the world would tour and
train groups in ministry tools such as drama, team worship, world
missions, and school assembly, sharing the knowledge they have acquired
through their unique experiences. Within our network we possess some of
the finest in the ministry work force today.
As the third part of our agenda we want to form a ministry staff
resource center. Many times
positions within churches are vacated abruptly and church members are left
to suffer. As a service to Senior pastors across the nation, we would like
to fill the need for temporary children’s leaders, bus pastors, music
leaders, youth pastors, etc. These
well trained temporary staff would fulfill their contract while a
permanent prospect is secured. The final part of our agenda is to
establish a scholarship fund. Scholarships
would be issued in the names of successful applicants to the Affiliated
Master’s Commission program of their choice.
This enables ministries, churches, and families from third world
countries, American inter-cities, and rural communities with little or no
resources to give their young person, the chance to be a “Master’s
Commission graduate”. The
knowledge and training these “graduates” return home with would
benefit their communities, churches, and families. Stage 1 of the M.C.I.N.
has been completed. The
program concept and guidelines have been firmly established.
A vision of personal discipleship, campus and street evangelism, as
well as world missions has spread and has been put into forceful action.
It is now time for stage 2. The
second stage is the four part agenda I have just shared.
This stage cannot be completed without your support.
It is our greatest effort to be “church builders” and to serve
congregations large and small throughout the world whether or not they
have a Master’s Commission program of their own.
To assist us in our mission the General Council of the Assemblies
of God has granted World Ministries giving credit to all ministries who
contribute. The Network
itself bears the sole burden of raising its funds and continues to be a
faith ministry. Our mission
is vast and we are in great need of your support.
